Ms. Grady's Kindergarten Classroom
Our goal was to put on a show of the three little pigs together with kindergarten students. For that production we created a simple set, and made costumes for the children. We also worked with the kids in the classroom doing art projects with them, helping the kids memorize there lines, teaching them how to read, and working on the script. We baked cookies to give to the children and teachers after the performance to celebrate.
The role of our mentor was to teach us how to explain things to the kids in a way that they will understand. She helped us prepare the space for the play and guide us through the whole process of putting a play on with 4 and 5 year olds. She directed us on what is appropriate and what is not. She told us what she needed to have completed every day, such as art projects with the kids, assisting with any tasks the mentor deemed appropriate.
We spent ten hours of our time designing and creating the costumes, incorporating the two stories together to make one play, and baking. The last 20 hours of our time were spent teaching the kids their lines and directing the kids on stage telling them where they need to be and when to say there lines, and helping them do art projects in the class. We went into the classroom on A-days during our dead blocks from September 2013 to March 2013.
